Robert Bumpus has his background in architectural design, and his woodworking career began in New York City where he worked as a cabinet and furniture maker. Much of his experience was with a master French restorer who exposed him to the environment of fine antique furniture and the closely held traditional restoration craft. He is an experienced and versatile furniture restorer.

His specialties include structural and surface repairs, veneering, inlay, staining, shellac polishing and lacquer as applied to 18th, 19th, and 20th century European and American furniture. He builds reproduction pieces and enjoy commissions for new furniture and decorative arts objects, including boxes and turned work.

Plum Studio was founded in 1997 and is currently located in the Eastlake neighborhood of Seattle, close by Lake Union. He is a one man shop and offers absolute attention to detail and workmanship to the highest standard. Enquiries from designers, antique dealers and furniture lovers are most welcome.

 A beautifully crafted video documenting highlights during the repair, restoration, and creation of violins, cellos, and violas.  Rafael Carrabba Violins Studio is located in Seattle, Wa., on Queen Anne’s Hill. The message in this video short is for the professional musician who may have concerns about whether or not their instrument will be carefully and lovingly handled during the restoration and repair process. They have recently been given the commission to do the restorative work on what is believed to be a Stradivarius Violin.  This was a gift to the Seattle Symphony.
